What we do

Community first, always.

The North Shore Improvement Association (NSIA) plays a hands-on role in keeping Fawnskin beautiful, connected and thriving. From installing seasonal decorations to shoreline cleanups, everything we do is rooted in a love for our town and the people who call it home.

We're here to preserve the charm of Fawnskin while bringing the community together.

Events that bring us together

The social side of service.

Fawnskin runs on connection and our calendar is full of moments that make us feel like one big extended family. NSIA organizes and supports a variety of local gatherings, including:

  • Community socials
  • The Summer Picnic & Concert at Captain John’s Marina
  • The festive and offbeat Doo Dah Parade
  • The beloved Christmas Tree Lighting
  • The tongue-in-cheek mayoral race fundraiser

These events aren’t just for fun; they raise money, lift spirits and remind us of the importance of community.

Beautifying Fawnskin

A little dirt, a lot of heart.

Our work shows up in flower beds, fresh paint and clean sidewalks. The NSIA leads regular beautification efforts throughout Fawnskin, including:

  • Summer shoreline cleanups
  • Cleanups at the town center and dog park
  • Downtown sprucing and seasonal decorating
  • Planting and maintaning two public flower gardens

It’s not glamorous, but it matters and our volunteers always show up with smiles and gardening gloves.

Recent projects

Turning promises into progress.

The mayoral tradition in Fawnskin isn’t just symbolic, it’s impactful. Recent mayors have raised funds and followed through on big improvements:

Fawnskin Welcome Sign (2021)

Former Mayor Loni Emig commissioned the now-iconic “Fawnskin” sign that greets visitors as they arrive on the north side of the lake.

Community Bulletin Board & Trail Map (2024)

Mayor Billy Van Vugt worked with local artisans to create a beautifully crafted info hub at the Fawnskin triangle.

Fawnskin Dog Park (2025)

Also led by Mayor Billy and the NSIA, this project was brought to life with support from San Bernardino County Parks and Rec and officially opened in June 2025.
